Looking solely at official performance figures does not fully capture the differences between various GPUs or their relative merits; for example, video memory bandwidth can also have a significant impact on the final execution time. Here, we conduct a comparative test using a typical deep learning task as an example.

Testing Instructions:

  1. Benchmarking using PyTorch 1.9.0 on different GPUs in WebCal (all single-GPU tests)

  2. The network input consists of synthetic data constructed in memory using torch.zero, so it does not include the impact of CPU preprocessing or additional I/O; the performance of the GPU itself is the primary factor.

  3. Test two algorithms: ResNet50 and ViT Transformer. The ResNet network contains a large number of activation layers; in addition to computational power, GPU memory bandwidth also has a significant impact on performance. The ViT Transformer involves many convolutions, so computational power is the primary factor affecting performance.

  4. Includes test results for single-precision FP32 and half-precision FP16 (non-mixed precision); please compare them according to your needs.

GPU video memory size is also an important factor to consider. For a comparison of GPU specifications, refer to the document; more detailed hardware specifications can be found at this website.
